This painting was inspired by the carousel in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York where the artist used to go with her children when they were young. Malcah always loved the beautiful carvings and painted decorations on the carousel. The carousel was always perceived as a poetic and memorable part of childhood. Malcah Zeldis is one of the most well known contemporary American self-taught artists. Her artwork is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution and in the collection of twenty three other museums around the world. She has illustrated eleven children's books.
